Day 2–Prince Edward Island National Park…and L.M. Montgomery’s Burial Site

To begin Day 2, let’s just say Adella still had no luggage. We decided that wouldn’t stop us, so we headed to Prince Edward Island National Park. Last year PEI decided to allow all beach access for free. Woo hoo!

We stopped at our first beach Dalvay Beach. Adella and I walked down the stairs and found amazing views.

At first there were maybe five people, but as the day went on, it began to fill up. We aren’t talking massive numbers, but likely one hundred people shared the water with us.

Adella and I found jellyfish and one smashed crab. Watching the jellyfish intrigued me. Adella showed much more caution.

We walked both directions. A protected plover nesting area extended in one direction and endless beach extended in the other. We played in the sand and walked about half a mile.

Both of us wished she had a swimsuit. At one point I tried to get my swimsuit on Adella, but she never felt comfortable. We just enjoyed the beach today and resolved we will return again for the water.

Speaking of Adella’s luggage…I had an AirTag in Adella’s bag, and though we were promised the bag would arrive by noon, I could tell it was still in Toronto then. Having her bag arrive could not be guaranteed, so I asked a fellow Canadian what Canadian store was comparable to a Target, and he directed me to Walmart 😂. It had Canadian flags throughout, so it felt like a new experience?!?

After clothes, we tried out Tim Horton’s. While coffee seems to be their staple, we ate chicken sandwiches. Next stop…Kindred Spirits Inn.

Quick recap: We are here to celebrate our love for Anne Shirley, a fictional character created by Lucy Maud Montgomery. Anne called all her friends Kindred Spirits, so I chose this hotel for us. It is next door to the Green Gables Homestead. Adella fell in love 🥰.

The extensive grounds provide a pickleball court, small soccer field, playground, outdoor pool with separate hot tub, and a campfire site. There are also board games, a lending library, and a video collection for everyone to use.

Walk up the stairs of the main building, and you’ll find our room. In addition, larger cottages are available to families.

It took a little coaxing to get moving again after finding our room, but we did indeed head to dinner. Adella and I had encouraging family members who suggested lobster rolls should make it on our dinner plate. The best place around??? The Lost Anchor, of course.

Our wait would be 20 minutes, so we headed across the road to the cemetery where Lucy Maud had been buried. This town’s greatest success had been the Anne series (though they do tell me they are world famous for potatoes). The cemetery provides a path for everyone to find their way to the final resting spot for Lucy Maud.

After a short visit we went back for the lobster roll. I think I would prefer warm lobster, but that’s not how it generally comes. We chose the clarified butter recipe and ordered a delightful salad just in case.

We took advantage of the wait by playing tic tac toe, completing a word search and coloring. Everything came out perfectly. We both decided the lobster rolls was perfection for someone who loves lobster rolls. For two girls who don’t love them, we still ate it happily. Adella tried new things all over the board. The salad came with lettuce, feta, fruit, and walnuts. Now that is something we both could love.

The best part of our meal came when my phone rang. Adella’s baggage arrived at our hotel!!! I could tell the bag had arrived in Charlottetown, but I didn’t know when we would get it. Turns out…tonight!

As we finished our dinner, we excitedly returned to our inn and prepared for bed. Day 2 proved to be excellent indeed.
