Day 6–The Long Awaited Water Day, a Musical, and My Most Memorable Part of the Trip

Down the road from our beloved Kindred Spirits Inn and Cottages was a water park. Adella and I talked about going, and with the beautiful weather today, we made it a reality. How funny it is that this, of all days, was Adella’s favorite day!

We walked the park and found a variety of experiences—paddle boats on the lake, playgrounds, carnival-like rides, and plenty of water activities.

Our first entry did not go well. We had honed in on the map and missed the entrance booth. There were multiple ways to enter, and we found one. We returned to the entrance for our wristbands (a necessity to enjoy the park) then decided to start with the waterslides. While the sun was shining, the water betrayed that warmth. It was freezing. However, this is Adella’s Aunt Becca trip, so cold we were.

I took pictures of Adella’s solo water adventures. We mostly went together, but I told her I needed some photos for the family:

Shining Waters Water Park even had a petting zoo—alpacas, donkeys, miniature horses, bunnies, guinea pigs…we even enjoyed the stuffed chicken show. Adella also tried her hand at milking cows! She thinks she’d like to live on a farm.

We rode the mini coaster together. However, once we rode the spinning pumpkins, I was out for any large motions. I don’t spin well, and after we finished one ride, I had to readjust to a wobbly world for a while. Adella went again, so she could really spin the ride!

We enjoyed the optically changing mirrors too! Big feet, tall bodies, and wide frames completed the fun.

The water park cost around $25 USD, and you can pre purchase tickets for a reduced price. Adella really enjoyed every part of the park. We would alternate between water slides then the pool. We would take to the dry events then return to water. Yes, Prince Edward Island has amazing beaches, but for the fun factor, we really enjoyed the water park.

Our time in Cavendish drew to a close. I had reward points with my credit card, so I purchased the Hotel on Pownal with points—both upon arrival and as our last hotel. Turns out we scored free parking and a walk that was within blocks of the Anne of Green Gables The Musical.

We needed dinner and decided on Italian. I always love a good gnocchi, and it did not disappoint.

You might notice the man in between us. Well, we dined outside because live street music was about to occur. First, we saw him then the instruments started to arrive. Let’s see if you can guess the style of music they played just by the instruments:

Did you guess jazz music? It was! Little children danced in the pedestrian only street, and the rows of restaurant patrons enjoyed the ambiance.

We would have stayed longer, but our show was about to begin. We walked around the building to the Sobey Family Theater entrance and began the hunt for our seats. We were located in Aisle 2 Row DD. The lady directed us to the front of the theater. I couldn’t believe it, so I went back and said, “We are DD.” She explained the rows—A, B, CC, DD. Yes, we were four rows back from the stage, and we could see the orchestra pit conductor perfectly. The actors faces and emotions showed clearly too. I can rightfully say that the package we purchased from the Kindred Spirits Inn was totally worth it! Our seats were amazing!!!

I have no pictures of the musical (not allowed), but I have a couple from before.

The musical itself was magical. I loved watching Adella watch the musical. She giggled with glee, hid her eyes in embarrassment, and cried with agony. Okay, well I bawled too. In fact, the lady behind us gave us two of her three Kleenexes. My dad would have been proud!!! He cried at everything too. At the end, Adella said, “It took me weeks to overcome Matthew’s death in the books. Who knows now how long it will take me?” I could not have wanted to see this play with anyone more.

I actually have this heart that grew ten sizes for Adella. We sat in the last two seats of our row. Two older women scooted past us, but they left a seat between us and them. Adella sat next to that seat.

Prior to the start of the show a man came to the row and took that very seat. He did not seem like a typical Anne fan, but we watched the first act together. At intermission Adella and I rushed to the bathroom then Adella wanted to return to our seats. I think she was soaking everything up.

That man was sitting there alone, looking through his backpack. Adella turned to me and said, “Should I ask him if he’s read the book?” I told her to go for it. So, Adella did.

As soon as she asked, he became fully engaged (and likely entranced) by Adella. She carried on a conversation with this man the entire intermission. He had not, in fact, known anything about Anne, but he just started as a tour guide. The play had been research. Adella explained the differences between the book and the play, and listened to his story too (he was originally from the Bahamas). In that moment, I’d never been more touched by the beautiful spirit Adella possesses. Usually, she hides behind me until she feels safe, but tonight she conversed with this man as if he’d been her friend for years. She took him through the story as if she were the author.

Vesley (Wesley with a V) ended the night by telling Adella to never stop being as awesome as she is. They even looked at each other during the second act as he recognized parts of the play she had explained. If I could relive one moment of our trip, seeing this beautiful exchange would be it. Never before have I been more touched by the special heart this girl carries with her. I will never forget it.
